Projekt ,,Focus on youth”

From July 27th to August 1st, 2015, 25 people from the Czech Republic, Malta, Poland, Romania, Turkey, and Hungary participated in the Erasmus+ "Focus on Youth" project in Chojna. The project aimed to build European identity and mutual understanding among youth leaders and teachers interested in non-formal work methods. The project was coordinated by the Douzelage Association in Chojna, in cooperation with the Chojna Secondary School Complex. The activities, conducted using active methods and including team-building games, presentations, pantomime, discussions, brainstorming, needs assessment methods, forum presentations, individual and group work, allowed participants to develop knowledge and skills in:

  • pracy metodami edukacji pozaformalnej w obszarach edukacji zdrowotnej i rekreacji,
  • integracji uczestników kursu szkoleniowego ze środowiskiem lokalnym,
  • stanu aktywności fizycznej młodych ludzi w lokalnych społecznościach miejscowości: Siret, Susice, Konya, Koszeg, Rinella, Kalkara i Chojna,
  • sposobów promowania właściwych nawyków żywieniowych,
  • metod zachęcania młodych ludzi do aktywności fizycznej,
  • alternatywnych metod aktywności fizycznej,
  • radzenia sobie ze stresem oraz zastosowania poznanych metod w pracy z młodzieżą,
  • kształtowania postaw asertywnych wśród młodzieży w odniesieniu do nikotyny, alkoholu i narkotyków.

The project program allowed for a comparison of the most popular sports and leisure activities among young people in different countries, as well as why some are unsuitable for participation. It allowed for an exploration of the social roles young people play today and the types of learning they find most engaging, revealing the benefits of non-formal education. Based on shared experiences, a special questionnaire was developed, which will allow for a better understanding of the needs of today's youth in the future. During the project, participants realized the importance of health and physical fitness in the study age group. They learned how to promote and implement good eating and exercise habits in young people's lives, using unconventional methods that empower them to make good decisions and foster trust and independence. They learned about various methods of social influence and how, in this context, they can foster an assertive attitude in themselves and others, which builds our personality. The participants also learned about the problems of environments that interfere with the development of a strong personality and what causes many undesirable behaviors such as anorexia, bulimia, addictions and other problems that disturb the psyche of young people.

The project taught youth leaders and teachers how to conduct conversations on difficult topics related to addictions and dependencies. This led to an awareness of the importance of leadership in society. Knowledge was acquired through the experience of individuals naturally taking on leadership roles within a group. They learned the characteristics and behaviors of a good leader and what makes them capable of leading a group during play, work, or conversation. As a result, anyone who aspired to be a good leader had to familiarize themselves with alternative forms of physical activity, such as yoga or boules, to learn how to effectively introduce new activities into their environment, thus gaining the support of members of their cultural group. A key element was learning how to ensure safety while participating in sports and familiarizing themselves with various types of assistance in the event of injury or ill health.

This strongly influenced the participants' sense of responsibility, which led them to plan their own projects in the future. Each participant was provided with a full set of materials necessary to consolidate and disseminate the acquired knowledge and received a certificate confirming their completion of the training and the skills acquired during the course.
